What made you join:
A friend of mine had started a cadetship a few years back and he told me all about it at the time. As he was enjoying it and I've always been interested in engineering it seemed like an excellent way to begin a lifelong career.
College life:
College life is.... busy! We cover a lot of subjects over a relatively short space of time and get examined on them constantly. The subjects are generally interesting though and there is a good mix; from the "academical" ones such as Mathematics and Mechanics to the more practical ones such as Motor Propulsion and Marine Auxiliary Systems. I enjoy being at college (perhaps not so much around exam time) and some of my classmates are now my best mates!
At Sea:
Being at sea has its ups and downs, as I'm sure most seafarers will say. I have travelled to many different countries since starting my cadetship less than two years ago and it is an excellent way to see some of the world. Some days in the engine room are hectic while most are is routine, there is a lot to learn but actually getting "hands on" experience cannot be beaten.
Career aspiration:
First and foremost, finish my cadetship and gain my Class 4 COC. After that, work hard and try to progress in my career as a marine engineer as much as possible.
