What inspired you to pursue a career at sea?
It’s something I’ve always wanted to do since I was young.
Living in a big port town right by the sea and being on boats when younger has pushed me towards wanting to work in the Merchant Navy and applied as soon as i left high school
How have you found your training course so far?
I’ve have found the course brilliant so far the college have been .
Really helpful and good at teaching as well as the support they provide, and the courses are really good and beneficial for when I’m back on the boat. There’s hands on and theory which is good for picking up what you’re learning
What skills and traits do you believe are most important as a Deck Officer apprentice?
Good communication and team work skills, confidence in your self, problem solving and innovation skills
What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting their Career at Sea?
I would highly advise to go for it as it’s the best thing I’ve done.
I couldn’t see myself working in any other trade, as being at sea is like a second home and I enjoy the work .
